For FREC 4, EMTs, Paramedics, Advanced Paramedics, AAPs, QQI Level 5
Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), Pharmacists and Nurses. Other Allied Health care

About the Course
This course is suitable for EMS practitioners, GP practice nurses, and healthcare assistants who are new to interpreting 12 lead ECGs and for those who require a refresher to boost their confidence and knowledge in this specialist area. Students will learn how to place a 3 lead, 12 lead, and 15 lead ECG along with basic interpretation. Successful students will earn 6 CPC points.
OBJECTIVES
- Outline the basic anatomy of the chest and heart. 
- Discuss correct patient preparation. 
- Identify accurate electrode positions. ( 3 lead, 12 lead, Posterior, Right side ecg) 
- Outline how to record a diagnostic ECG. 
- Rhythm Recognition 
- ECG interpretations 
- Recognise Different Heart blocks etc 
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
- Explain the anatomy of the heart. 
- Discuss how to prepare the patient , consent and skin preparation. 
- Identify reasons for recording an ECG. 
- Identify problems in obtaining a good quality ECG and suggest solutions to these to avoid noise and artefacts. 
- Identify the steps involved in recording a standard 12 lead ECG, including electrode placement and the pre and post-procedure considerations.
